A body lift is normally performed in patients who have undergone bariatric surgery or who have lost large amounts of weight through diet and exercise. The excess skin and underlying tissue, resulting from such massive weight loss, can be uncomfortable, and leave patients feeling self-conscious and finding it difficult to embrace their new bodies.

During this procedure excess skin, fat and other tissue are removed. An upper, mid or lower body lift, or a combination is performed, depending on where the excess skin is located.

Body lift surgery cannot necessarily be completed at one surgical sitting, and multiple procedures might have to be performed to reach optimal body contouring. Liposuction might also be necessary to refine results.
